On 30 October 2001 the Interreligious Council of Crimea (southern Ukraine) asked Crimeans and the Crimean government to forbid the celebration of Halloween, a holiday which is native to English-speaking countries and is becoming popular in Ukraine.

Karekin II, Catholicos of all Armenians, has been awarded the Ukrainian Order of Yaroslav the Wise for his significant personal contribution to the development and strengthening of relations between the Armenian and Ukrainian Churches.On 29 October 2001 he received his award in a ceremony held in his residence in Etchmiadzin, Armenia.(Karekin and his award are pictured.)

VATICAN CITY, OCT. 29, 2001(Zenit.org) Lubomyr Cardinal Husar, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, has been named to a 15-member council that will help the Pope write a postsynodal exhortation. The synod of Catholic bishops, which discussed the theme “the figure of the bishop,” officially closed with a Mass last Saturday.

The Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist Churches in Podillia has begun a two-month program of wider evangelization titled "Maranatha: the Lord comes near.” According to an announcement of the Church’s press-service in Khmelnitskyi on 27 October 2001, the program began at a joint assembly of all the Adventist congregations in Podillia, in which about 1000 people took part.

The Forum of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, joined by international guests, opened its convention in Kyiv on 25 October 2001. In addition to summarizing past accomplishments and planning for the future, the convention delegates elected Vadym Rabinovych, president of the All-Ukraine Jewish Congress, to the Worldwide Council of the Conference on Religion and Peace.

The Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine organized a memorial concert on 15 October 2001 to honor the memory of the victims from more than 80 countries who died as a result of the terrorist attack of September 11. The concert, held in Kyiv’s Building of Organ and Chamber Music (St. Nicholas Church), was attended by His Holiness Filaret, Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine (Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate), representatives of the Roman Catholic Church and other religious organizations.
Crimean Government Returns Buildings to Jews and Muslims 20.10.2001, [11:38] // Jewish Communities //
The Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (southern Ukraine) has responded positively to the requests of Jewish and Muslim communities to return their property.The Council decided to give back a former synagogue on Karaeva Street to the Orthodox Jewish congregation “Yaakov” in the town of Yevpatorii. The former “Orta Dzhami” mosque in Bakhchysarai has also found a new owner. By order of the Council it has been given to the Muslim community “Mustafa Dzhami.” The press service of the Crimean government reported this information on 16 October 2001.
