Church Most Trusted Institution in Ukraine for Second Year 31.03.2004, [18:05] // Survey //
The church is the most trusted institution in Ukraine, according to a survey conducted by the Center of Social and Political Research (SOCIS) from 1 to 7 March 2004. Last year, a similar survey showed that the church was the most trusted social institution as well, supported by 47 percent of Ukrainians. The results of the survey were announced during a round table discussion “The Social Opinion of the Ukrainian Population” held by the “Democratic Initiatives” foundation and the Institute of Sociology at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the capital city of Kyiv on 26 March 2004.

During a meeting on 24 March 2004 in southern Ukrainian Odesa, Bishop Bronislaw Bernacki of Odesa and Simferopol of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), Oleksandr Sorokin, president of the Black Sea Christian Center “Mission for Sailors,” Ken Peters, deputy head of the mission, and Pastor Petro Martianov of the United Methodist Church discussed the organization of spiritual care for maritime officers and their families and chaplain service.

During a meeting on 20 March 2004 in northwestern Ukrainian Lutsk, the Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate, headed by Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), appointed new bishops for the Volyn, Sumy and Okhtyrka, and Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv eparchies and introduced changes to the statutes of the St. Feodosii Monastery in Kyiv.
MP Asks Defense Ministry to Give Lviv Building to Orthodox (UOC-MP) 25.03.2004, [12:50] // UOC-MP //
National Deputy Ihor Shurma of the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine-United sent a request to Yevhen Marchuk, minister of defense of Ukraine, to transfer the building of the former shooting society in western Ukrainian Lviv, which is owned by the ministry, to the local community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), headed by Archbishop Auhustyn. This news was reported by “The Lviv Gazette” newspaper on 24 March 2004.

A scholarly conference entitled “The Christian Pedagogue 2004,” held in eastern Ukrainian Kharkiv from 19 to 21 March 2004, gathered approximately 400 teachers and educators from all over Ukraine to discuss the use of the Bible in secondary school instruction.
99% of Ukrainian Peace-keepers in Iraq Consider themselves Believers 24.03.2004, [16:51] // Survey //
Iraq- According to sociological research conducted among Ukrainian peace-keepers now stationed in Iraq, 99% of the soldiers consider themselves believers. Of these, 90% are Orthodox, 7% Greek Catholic, and 3% Roman Catholic. The news was posted by Orthodox.org.ua on 23 March 2004.
