Lviv – On 25 April 2006 in western Ukrainian Lviv in the name of the state of Israel 18 families from the west of Ukraine were declared “Righteous of the World.” During World War II each family saved from 1 to 9 Jews, risking their own lives. Oleksandr Hladchenko of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), who was accused of stirring up religious hostility and assaulting representatives of the Jehovah’s Witnesses who were preaching in the village of Berezniaky in 2005 before Easter. Kyiv – The religious organization Family Fire of the Native Orthodox Faith on 23 April 2006 established a pagan temple on Castle Hill in the center of Kyiv. High Wizard Vitalii Kurovskyi of the organization said that soon the site will be a center of pilgrimage for his fellow believers and so he suggests that a whole complex called “Island of the Gods” be created there.
