Zhytomyr – The faithful and connoisseurs of architecture have sounded an alarm. The famous Three Mountain Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate near central Ukrainian Zhytomyr is under the threat of landslides which may cause its destruction. The monastery, which was built in the Middle Ages, is popular among pilgrims from all over the world. 5tv.com.ua posted the news on 29 June 2006.

Chernivtsi – Fr. Mykola Protsiuk of the village of Korchivtsi in southwestern Ukraine’s Chernivtsi Region sold to unidentified buyers 10 icons from the 200-year-old church for 1000 hryvnias (approximately US $ 200). Kharkiv – On 25 June 2006 when faithful of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) came for Liturgy, they found that the trailer where Liturgies are served was broken into. Fr. Mykola Semenovych called the police, who during the search found that the church safe was broken into. Church property was stolen.

Kyiv—Bishop Mykhail Sabryha of Ternopil and Zboriv of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church died on 29 June 2006 after long period of heart disease. He was born in 1940, entered the Redemptorist order and started studying in the underground seminary in 1963, and was ordained a priest in 1974 and a bishop in 1986.

Kharkiv – On 26 June 2006 in eastern Ukrainian Kharkiv faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) had a prayerful demonstration near the Kharkiv Regional Administration (KRA). Over 500 people came to Independence Square requesting the governor to ban the visit of Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP), planned for late June.

Kyiv – On 26 June 2006 Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko signed a decree to award Bishop Yulian Voronovskyi of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and other prominent figures the order “for accomplishments,” second degree.
