Kyiv – In his commentary for the press service of the Patriarchy of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), Metropolitan Mefodii (Kudriakov) positively assessed ongoing negotiations regarding the Eucharist union with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP). The hierarch is hopeful for negotiations to continue immediately after the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, scheduled for 30 September 2007. At the same time, the Head of the UAOC doubted the ability of the representatives of the UOC-KP to have a positive influence on the unification process. Rivne to Have a Christian TV Channel

Rivne – The first Christian TV channel in northern Ukraine’s Rivne, which will function under the auspices of the Rivne Interchurch Council, will be launched by the end of the year. It will broadcast 15-16 hours per day. According to the organizers, the channel will not advertise cigarettes and alcohol and all that contradicts Christian ethics, as the Rivne newspaper reported.

Donetsk – On 20-23 September in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk the seventh annual All-Ukrainian Christian Conference was held, organized by the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church (UCEC). The sport complex “Druzhba” gathered almost nine thousand faithful from different regions of Ukraine. In his welcoming speech, Senior Bishop Padun of the UCEC noted that the faithful of the Church treat all political parties with equal respect, since the Church has a place for every faithful, regardless of his/her political preferences. Kyiv – “The deputies of the Ukrainian Parliament are named “people’s” deputies; therefore, each of them should bear in mind that s/he was elected to serve not their needs but people”, so says the address of participants of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations in connection with the oncoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine, scheduled for 30 September 2007. The religious council call upon the citizens of Ukraine to come to the polling stations and cast their vote for the party they trust and not to sell their vote and conscience. “If someone gets lured into such behavior, then they should not complain that the politicians they voted for do not fulfill their promises and also sell their consciences,” says the address.
