Lviv—On 28 November, a joint meeting of the members of the Synod of Bishops of the Supreme Archbishopric of Kyiv and Halych of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Conference of Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church of Ukraine is being held in the western Ukrainian Lviv-Briukhovychi. The conferences are attended by all the Catholic bishops of Ukraine. The aim of the meeting is to show the unity of the faith despite the differences in culture and rite.

Kyiv—The website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate posted, with the blessing of Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, a statement of the chancellery of the Kyivan Metropolitanate “with regard to the attempts to politicize the Address of the Holy Synod of UOC and to interpret it incongruously with its content.” The statement is signed by the Secretary of the Head of UOC, Bishop Oleksandr (Drabynko) of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi. Kyiv—On 26 November, a meeting of the Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyivan Patriarchate was held. The synod considered the address of Archbishop Yurii (Yurchyk) of Donetsk and Mariupol to the episcopate of UOC-KP, in which he criticized the activity of Patriarch Filaret regarding the unification of the Ukrainian Orthodoxy and announced that the head of UOC-KP would not be mentioned in the services in the parishes of his eparchy. In view of the above, the Synod of UOC-KP decreed “to exclude Archbishop Yurii (Yurchyk) from the episcopate of UOC of Kyivan patriarchate and prohibit him to perform the ministry.”

Ukrainian Orthodox Church of USA Participates in Special Program in UN Commemorating 75th Anniversary of Holodomor 27.11.2008, [14:38] // Foreign relations //
On Tuesday, November 25th, 2008, Protopriest Bazyl Zavierukha and Protopresbyter Frank Estocin, at the request of Archbishop Antony, Consistory President represented the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA at a special program held in the United Nations, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Holodomor – 1932-3 Genocidal Famine in Ukraine.
Sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, the program was held in the Dig Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium, and featured a review of the political machinations of the Communist Regime, which resulted in the death by forced starvation of 10 million or more souls – men, women and children. Opening and concluding remarks were given by Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the Honorable Yurii Serheiev. The position of Master of Ceremonies was held by Attorney Askold Lozynskyi, who presented recently discovered information pertaining to this, Ukraine’s darkest historical period.
Patriarch Filaret Challenged By Donetsk Archbishop 27.11.2008, [13:19] // UOC-KP //
Donetsk—On 25 November, 2008, the clergy and laity of Donetsk and Mariupol Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyivan Patriarchate gathered in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk. The meeting’s subject was unification of Ukrainian Orthodoxy and start of a negotiation process between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. In addition, the meeting addressed support of President Yushchenko’s initiatives, aimed at overcoming the divisions in Ukrainian Orthodoxy. Archbishop Yurii criticized the activity of Patriarch Filaret regarding the unification and proposed an initiative to start the negotiation on the unification of the Ukrainian Orthodoxy into one local Orthodox Church himself.

Kyiv—According to UNIAN information agency, Yurii Lutsenko, Minister of Internal Affairs, has claimed at a press conference on 25 November that the religious organization of Sunday Adelaja Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God is involved in the activity of the King's Capital financial group.
Lviv Mayor Asks Ukraine’s President to Initiate Granting of “Repressed” Status to Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church 26.11.2008, [15:16] // UGCC //
Lviv—In his address to Ukraine’s president, the Mayor of the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, Andrii Sadovyi noted that “numerous incidents of repressions against the faithful and ministers of the UGCC, including deportation to Siberia, the expropriation of property, and the destruction of churches or use thereof for non-intended purposes present evidence of purposeful activity aimed at the forced liquidation of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church as such.” Sadovyi stressed that it was for this purpose that “the regime of that time inspired the organization in March, 1946 of the Lviv pseudo sobor of UGCC, which proclaimed its annexation to the Russian Orthodox Church, despite the fact that none of the bishops of that Church participated in that gathering, as they were already arrested.” RISU’s Ukrainian-language web page posted this story on 24 November.
The mayor’s address includes a request that Victor Yushchenko “as the supreme official of the Ukrainian state, initiate granting the status of “repressed church” to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and let it be the subject of a legislative initiative to consider this issue in Ukraine’s Parliament, if the need arises.”
