Kyiv—In his comment on President Yushchenko’s meeting with Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople on October 28th in Istanbul and the president’s proposal to hold the next All-Orthodox Conference of 2009 in the Cathedral of Holy Sophia in Kyiv, the Head of the Department of External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate Archimandrite Kyryl (Hovorun) stressed that UOC-MP welcomes the “efforts of the Ukrainian state authorities aimed at overcoming the existing Church divide in Ukraine, if these efforts are made with respect for the canonical order of the Church and in constructive cooperation with the authorities and all the interested parties and, first of all, with our country’s biggest Ukrainian Orthodox Church.”

Kyiv—The delegation of the Polish Orthodox Church arrived in Ukraine for the presentation by the Kyivan Spiritual Academy of a diploma of the Doctor of Theology “Honoris Causa” to Metropolitan Savva of Warsaw and All Poland. On 28 October, 2008, the delegation visited the Kyivan Monastery of the Caves. The Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Volodymyr met with the delegation at his residence.

Istanbul—During a conversation on 28 October, 2008 in Istanbul with the Universal Patriarch Bartholomew I, Victor Yushchenko expressed his gratitude for the patriarch’s participation in the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of baptism of Kyivan Rus. According to the president, the prayers and speeches of the patriarch made a special impression on the Ukrainian faithful and instilled confidence regarding efficient assistance in establishing the local Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Kyiv—On 20-23 October, in the town of Krasyliv of the eastern Ukrainian Khmelnytsk Region (Evangelization Center of the Capuchin Brothers), the final inter-confessional seminar for chaplains of traditional and Protestant Churches of Ukraine was held. The purpose of the event was professional training and exchanging experience of persons involved in Christian ministry in prisons.

Kyiv—The closing stage of the international action Everburning Candle was launched in Ukraine. The events began in the village of Ivankiv in the Boryspil District of Kyiv with a public prayer to remember the Holodomor and the lighting of a symbolic candle from the torch of the Everburning Candle, which was passed by 32 countries from one to another. The torch was brought to Ukraine by a delegation led by the Ambassador of Ukraine in Georgia, Mykola Spys.

Kyiv—Christian-Democratic parties of Europe signed a memorandum of cooperation. According to a report of our RISU correspondent, Tetiana Shpaikher, on 25 October, representatives of eight countries signed the agreement on cooperation: Estonia, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine, Latvia and Moldova.
Poetic Evening "Glory to Heroes" Held in Lviv 27.10.2008, [16:06] // UGCC //
A musical and poetic evening “Glory to the heroes” took place today at Holy Spirit Seminary in Lviv. Before vespers in the seminary conference hall, second-year students gave a presentation dedicated to the 66th anniversary of the day of the creation of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, in its Ukrainian acronym). The purpose of this concert was a deeper consideration of the role of UPA for the whole Ukrainian nation and the value of patriotism and self-sacrifice in the life of the conscious citizen.
