KYIV — From the 26 to the 30 of August, 2009, in Kyiv will take place a Pan-Slavic Baptist Conference, marking the 400th year of Baptism. Leaders of Unions of Baptists of countries of the CIS and emigration unions will come to the event. In addition to senior pastors there will be close to three thousand Baptists taking part. KYIV — The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at its session passed a resolution regarding the improvement of order of entry to Ukraine of clergy from other countries and proposed the parliament free from import tax Bibles brought into the country. The changes made in the resolution foresees that for foreigners or persons without citizenship who come to Ukraine for religious purposes or for work in religious organizations on the territory of Ukraine and received a type “P” visa, registration will take place during the period of the visa’s validity. Ukrainians Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Revival of Autocephalous Orthodox Church 21.08.2009, [12:03] // UAOC //
LVIV — In Lviv, August 19, 2009, took place a series of events dedicated to the celebration of the third revival of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC). The celebration began with a Holy Liturgy in the Sts. Peter and Paul Church, in which 20 years ago priests Volodymyr Yarema and Ivan Pashulya declared their withdrawal from the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.
A public prayer was held near the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church on Ruska Street. The celebration was ended in later that day with a special concert in a local theater.

KYIV — The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine confirmed a plan of measures to realize the Conception of Social Adaptation of People, who were deprived of freedom, in effect until the year 2015. The government designates a significant role to civil, religious, and charitable organizations to take part in the improvement of the appropriate normative-legal and methodical base, social accompaniment, and social patronage for people released from prison in order to help prevent criminality. MOSCOW — The recent pastoral visit of Patriarch Kirill to Ukraine became “an absolutely unique page” in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, believes the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archbishop Volokolamskyj Ilarion (Alfyeyev). On August 16, 2009, he shared his impressions of the visit to journalists. In his words, the main result is the following: “We saw that the Ukrainian people in the absolute majority do not want to be separated from the Russian Church, do not want the ill-famed autocephaly of which there was so much speculation in the last several years.” The words of the archbishop were cited from the internet publication Religion in Ukraine.
Exhibit of Prisoners’ Art Will be Opened in Kyiv during the Feast of the Transfiguration 18.08.2009, [16:30] // UGCC //
The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, through the support of the State Criminal Justice Services of Ukraine, will hold an exhibit entitled “Transfiguration through God’s Love.” The goal of the exhibition is to convey a message to society from fellow citizens who are currently imprisoned and to educate the public about the prison pastoral services offered by the Church.
